AYA-ROSA is a Brisbane-born songwriter, vocalist and guitarist now based in Melbourne. Since 2009, Aya-Rosa has been traveling the world collecting inspiration for her music, from the depths of the Amazon Jungle to the wide expanses of the Sahara Desert. This period of intensive soul searching and experiential growth has allowed her to find her voice and integrity as a songwriter, with many stimulating experiences to inspire her music. On 15 February 2016, Aya-Rosa will release her debut EP 21 Grams. Drawing from 90s indie-folk-rock influences such as Cat Power, Mazzy Star, and the more contemporary Warpaint, 21 Grams was conceived in collaboration with Melbourne producer Ariel Blum (The Fabric, Cash For Gold, Daughter of Dynamite, Telescopes). Recorded at the Echidna studios near Melbourne this six-track EP also features contributions from James Simon and ex-Tehachapi frontman Constantine Stephanou. The title of the album refers to the ancient Egyptian belief that a human soul weighs 21 Grams. The record itself, is a captivating exploration of the intricacies of intimacy and discovering what it means to be human through different kinds of relationships. As she delves into some of her past experiences, Aya-Rosa examines themes of love, lust, unrequited love and love lost.
