Channeling the creative gusto which lifted producers such as Nick Martinelli and Jam & Lewis to stardom in the 1980s, the Freekwency sound is a distinctly fresh and deliciously nostalgic ticket to a time when things were simpler. Based between Melbourne and Manchester, Benny’s production on several Freekwency singles, Nite Class’s “Love Scenes LP” and recent writing/arrangement work as head of labels Hot Shot Sounds and Gulf Point Records has not gone unnoticed. Benny spent his early years as a vinyl collector with strong interests in vintage audio and traditional production techniques. This groundwork would culminate in his first musical outgoing: Nite Class. With close friends De Konichiwa and Penelope Shum, Benny wrote and produced a prolific collection of songs in the style of his favourite records from the past. Their debut album “Love Scenes” was instantly regarded as a modern classic in the genre, being likened to groups such as S.O.S Band and The Cool Notes. Moving to the vibrant city of Melbourne had Benny writing more music than ever, taking his sound to much wider audiences. In 2012 he began Hot Shot Sounds with childhood friend and kindred spirit Inkswel, the label quickly grabbing attention with distribution by the infamous Peoples Potential Unlimited. With a mass of opportunity beckoning him, Benny relocated to Manchester in 2013 to mirror his operation in Australia. The outcome was Gulf Point Records, his home‐away‐from‐home and a launching pad for new projects created in the north. After a busy 2014 touring Europe, Asia and his native Australia, Benny has happily returned to Melbourne to further hone his skills has a composer, producing music for advertising and furthering his output with several more collaborations. These include Sydney-based Kimberly Aviso and her ultra-sweet 'SUGARZ' project, mysterious studio group 'Splendour' with California's Moni Mendoza and finally, a fresh line-up for Benny's own 'Silver Linings' alongside fellow Melburnian's Françoise and Harvey Sutherland. Stay tuned for more!
