Exploring beauty and body image is something I have explored for many years, and I have no plan to change that. To spill out thoughts of self worth and self-image on to paper is my goal. To express my unhealthy obsession of the female body as I fawn over the joys of Graphite on the surfaces it touches is my game. I want to create, for myself, a cradle to hold my self-esteem so that it doesn’t become crushed under the weight of ‘not good enough’. My art tends to showcase the bodies and faces of idealized women. They are either women I want to become or wished to be. They can be fantasy creatures or realistic portraits or they are creations of pure anger at what society has made me jealous of. Anything black and maybe chalky are what I tend to use. I use these mediums and colours because I need something comfortable to use when bursting my brains out onto a piece of paper. Listening to music has always been a comfortable, inspiring start in this process. Music ignites the flame of self-loathing and the thoughts of women I will never be. I release these demons because the music energizes me enough to give me the power to make it through. Candace Brady is an emerging artist from Canada. She is strongly attached to the concept of idealized beauty and distortions of the female figure. Fuelled by her personal struggle with her own beauty, she is compelled to express herself by inserting parts of herself in the work in order to create a kind of self portrait in all her works. She also explores the world of cute and clichéd images of anime, cartoon and Japanese culture with a side of weird. She draws with pencil and ink in a style that is dominated by line, variety, and quality. Brady is currently attending Sheridan College for Bachelor of Illustration. Advance Diploma.
