Heavily involved in martial arts, theatre arts, music and poetry, Jawara Ellis is the epitome of versatility. A multi-skilled individual with experience and expertise in various aspects of the performing arts, he is dynamic onstage performer who is one of the emerging voices in dub poetry and music. Off stage, he works as a stage manager, producer, video editor and studio engineer. His self produced debut poetry and dub music album ‘Who Am I?’ is due for release late 2015. It features 14 tracks, including the popular single ‘Hatta Sketches’, done in collaboration with veteran dub poet Oku Onuora. He is a graduate of Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts who has also taught theatre arts at the secondary school level, and works on the popular Jamaican television production ‘Ity & fancy Cat Show’ both behind the scenes as floor manager/production assistant, and in front of camera as an actor. Jawara is also an experienced martial arts instructor and coach with a 4th degree black belt in Karate and 3rd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He represented Jamaica as part of the National Combined Martial Arts Team, was the reigning local lightweight champion 2004/2005, and received the 2005 Prime Minister’s Youth Award for Excellence in the field of sports.
