MAGI NATION is a Durango Colorado roots reggae project, spearheaded by singer/songwriter Daniel Sagetree, His original compositions are a reggae expression of the connection with nature, community attunement, personal growth and the praises due to JAH RASTAFARI. Upon his arrival in Durango, Sagetree was introduced to one of the most experienced, influential and professional Rastaman in the highest region, Rasta Stevie. Formerly the business person and drummer for Colorado's legendary 8750 REGGAE BAND, as well as emcee, selector, radio personality and elder, Rasta Stevie offered to play drums if the duo found the bassist. When entering a local music store in 2012, Sagetree met Nick, a young, schooled musician who grew up with music. They began a musical collaborative and started a band, then simplified the mission as an acoustic duo. In October 2013, Ari Newkirk aka “Rumble” surfaced with his bass. A musicians’ musician and reggae aficionado, Rumble was raised in reggae hub of Taos New Mexico. He had been in a few bands but now found his rightful bass place with Sagetree and Nick. They quickly called Rasta Stevie and MAGI NATION arose. MAGI NATION performed in SW Colorado 4 times in first few months of 2014; performing in Telluride alongside Boulder's Naan Stop and around their local area in Durango, including an opening set for Tarrus Riley/Dean Frasier/Blak Soil Band. After taking the summer off, rehearsals commenced in November 2014 and they recruited Aaron, Nick's brother. Aaron is a freshman at Fort Lewis College who can’t remember not playing keyboards growing up. The new five piece configuration debuted at Durango's first ever cannabis event in January with a show stopping performance in a club who caters to strictly DJs. This year they played at Purgatory Ski Area, The Balcony Backstage, Moe’s Starlight Lounge, the Durango Farmers Market and the Animas City Theater. MAGI NATION is in the studio crafting their debut release slated for release in 2016 MAGI NATION is set apart by intricate roots songwriting with unusual ear-grabbing chord progressions, Rastaman directed messages of livity, and expressions of the Rocky Mountain natural environment and lifestyle.
