One British musician, an American mother-daughter lyric team, three Chinese singers; fourteen songs recorded in Beijing. These are my Red Leaf Songs. I have been a musician all my life, playing other people's music. I moved from London to China in 2010 and started to write my own songs for the first time, inspired by a new environment and lifestyle, nurtured by the anonymity and reflection that comes from living in a country very different to your own. What came out is a bunch of different sounds that drift through melodic guitar-piano pop, country style orchestral ballads, minimalist electro-indie, Euro-pop, and prog-tinged rock. The link throughout is the classic idea of 'the song' and how emotion is fired by melody and harmony. I have tried to write simple, basic but strong tunes. Most of the album has a female perspective, sung in English by Sheng Xia, Nico and Sasha Fu-Dodkin; two tracks are sung by me. This is about life, love, loss, longing, regret and hope. This is me, it will always be me. It's a 100% personal journey. I really like it. I'm amazed and glad I finally did it. _Website not available.
