Theater of Soul creates music that is rhythmic, melodic, ethereal, and danceable; it contains elements of jazz, blues, Classic RnB and gospel, rock, and latin music; diverse dance beats; and passionate drumming. It is, and will continue to be, clean: free of profanity, misogyny, and racial foolery. Lyrics will, however, be thoughtful, if not controversial, and mature, reflecting a knowledge of the world and certain psychologies.
The first album, "Who Are You?," is mostly instrumental, with some wailing, chanting, and harmonizing ("Funky Discussion"), a pure, infectious dance song ("Dance Happy"), a quick, funky groove ("Dreamboat on the Nile"), a late-night organ-jazz lament ("Sometimes I just Want To..."), traffic jams, ("Middle Creek" and "In the Boat"), layered questions ("In the Best of Times " and "Dreamboat on the Nile"), and dramatic, emotional songs ("Rotunda" and "Slow Drag in the Woods"). It is not music for those wanting to hear regular ole RnB, but it is fun, serious, and heartfelt.
The second album is expected to be completed, uh, sometime in 2016? It will include vocals and incorporate a slightly different approach to the music.
