I'm an artist from Vancouver, B.C. and Joshua Tree, California. I live part time in both places but am a Canadian resident. I am a dual citizen , born in Santa Cruz and raised in the sticks of Alberta (the Texas of Canada) . I escaped to Vancouver (Canada's L.A.) when I was 16 and travelled across Canada and back in my 20s. I visited my dad in California my whole life so am familiar with the desert and I have been a homeowner in Joshua Tree since 2010. I have had a previous 15 year career as a costume designer and builder for theatre, opera, film and television. I studied scenography at the National Theatre School in Montreal (which is Canada's version of Juilliard). in 2006 I quit working in TV as the assistant costume designer on Stargate Atlantis to explore my own ideas. I loved my job but my husband's website was doing well enough at the time that we didn't need two incomes if we lived frugally. Since then I have become very good at making pop art terrariums, sculpting in polymer clay, creating art lamps, painting my own characters into thrift store prints , photography, putting together lenticular collages in Photoshop and assemblage art using bits of organic matter I find in the desert. I love creating characters out of almost anything that interact with the environment (real or created) and each other. My work is very narrative . Story is the foundation of my entire artistic career. Varied though my mediums may be, they all reference an imagined scene of some sort. I am very well read in 19th and 20th century literature, listen to dozens of podcasts and am endlessly curious about the human condition. I have had a few gallery shows in Joshua Tree, California, but have not really pursued my art career through normal channels. My organic diorama terrariums were very popular at Vancouver craft shows and I've had some success online. People generally like my work when they see it. They say it reminds them of Tim Burton. sigh.
