Forged from the creative furnace of David Rybka, Victorian Dad is an industrious smelting-pot of rock, grunge, folk, passion and man power with a sleeve-pinned heart - with echoes of countless other artists and styles but with a flavourful power of their own. David Rybka has toured the world from Manchester to Mexico and back again and the band’s shows consistently cause a bigger buzz than the whirling of the Spinning Jenny. Victorian Dad’s 1st album The Thin Thread hit the airwaves in 2013 and people are taking notice, among them Mike Joyce of The Smiths, Tom Robinson of BBC 6Music, and Huey Morgan of Fun Lovin' Criminals fame. "Musically they’re a tight outfit depending on the subtleness of true talent rather than the much easier and popular route of noise and sound. You can hear from their live tracks that as an act they have a real passion for the intricate beauty that can be achieved through music and the clean haunting vocals add to the sense that these guys really are creating something almost ethereal." Front man and songwriter David Rybka has been performing with drummer Matt McNicholas and bassist Tom Doherty in various outfits for over fifteen years, giving the band years of experience and giving the core of the band time to develop into the proficient unit it is today. The band Victorian Dad sprung forth in 2007 in residence at Withington's last surviving 18th Century farmhouse, and shortly thereafter incorporated the skills of keyboardist and accordionist Fran Lydiatt and Mandolin/guitarist Thomas Yates. Their most recent addition is Matthew Gallagher on Guitars spreading the good vibes. Outside of music, between us we are landscape gardeners, clerical assistants, laser physicists, educators and care workers. Just in case you were curious. Or need your garden doing. Or have issues with your laser photo-spectrometer (that old chestnut eh?)
