When not composing with my iPhone, I use my netbook. (This is a netbook composition) I only have a simple app called "edjing" for mixing. I can only mix two tracks at once, therefore I mixed two tracks (1&4, because they are almost equal in length),whilst pitch shifting and adding effects, including reverse, then two more tracks (2&3 because they were also similar in length), with more effects manipulation. I then layered those two new mixes together, (whilst using pitch shifting to get them to similar lengths), and then I mixed a sonically manipulated track 5 with the newest mix. Finally, I found that I liked Chris Zabriskie's track 2 the most, so I wanted to highlight that track the most, so I layered it on top of all the previous mixes, but it didn't "fit" in tone or rhythm. I thought about it a while, and I thought a faster pitch and some distortion (I love distortion) might allow it to blend in better. I recorded track two, at a fairly fast clip, and at a slightly overrange volume (I have to work with real distortion because I don't have the effects kind). I then mixed it all together, and it seemed to work. I was rather pleased with some of the sub-harmonics and tonalities that developed in the process. Disquiet Junto Project 0198: Overture Remix Create an overture for a full-length album. Thanks to Lee Rosevere ( for proposing the source audio for this project. This week you’ll produce an overture for an album. You’ll do so by culling key representational material from each of the five tracks that comprise Chris Zabriskie’s album Thoughtless. Step 1: Download and listen to the five tracks of Chris Zabriskie’s album Thoughtless, available at this URL: Step 2: Cull a representative segment from each of the five tracks. Step 3: Create an overture to the album by combining those segments into one standalone piece of music. Step 4: Then listen to and comment on tracks uploaded by your fellow Disquiet Junto participants. Deadline: This assignment was made in the afternoon, California time, on Thursday, October 15, 2015, with a deadline of 11:59pm wherever you are on Monday, October 19, 2015. Length: The length of your finished work should be as long as you see fit. Upload: Please when posting your track on SoundCloud, only upload one track for this assignment, and be sure to include a description of your process in planning, composing, and recording it. This description is an essential element of the communicative process inherent in the Disquiet Junto. Photos, video, and lists of equipment are always appreciated. Title/Tag: When adding your track to the Disquiet Junto group on, please include the term “disquiet0198-overtureremix” in the title of your track, and as a tag for your track.
