The Creative Business Cup started off as a specifically Danish competition back in 2010, but it rapidly gained traction within the start-up sector. It now holds a number of finals around the world. This year, a domestic play-off is taking place in the UK – and Clowdy has been nominated!
If we win, we’ll visit Copenhagen during Global Entrepreneurship Week in November to take on some of the world’s best start-ups and creative ventures in the finals (as well as sampling some fine Danish beers).
In the UK, the competition is being held under the auspices of Creative England, who are hoping for a bumper crop of entrepreneurial ideas this year to reinforce the country’s growing reputation as a start-up incubator.
With businesses from as far afield as Zambia, Russia and Mexico all taking part in the overall competition, we’re hoping to fly the flag for our country’s thriving digital sector, going some way towards making up for the football team’s abysmal World Cup showing.
Although, if we’re being honest, national pride isn’t our only reason for getting involved.
The winning company will be offered a place on a fully financed acceleration programme, as well as getting exclusive support from specialist industry mentors and an international network of advisors.
There are a host of additional prizes on the table for runner-ups, and making the trip to Copenhagen would allow us to mingle with other innovative companies while developing our own business proposition.
Last year’s Creative Business Cup winners included Teddy the Guardian (a Croatian concept for a stuffed toy that can also be used to monitor a child’s vital signs) and Kinematics, an excellent, Lego-ish German construction kit that lets children create their own ‘robots’.
With the UK final rapidly approaching – mark your diaries for July 14th! – we’re hoping to gain a place among auspicious company.
Our unique multimedia proposition certainly puts us in with a chance, although we’re expecting some tough competition.
We’ll keep you posted on our progress through Twitter – wish us luck!
