Spotlight: TOXIC MILK

TOXIC MILk are an animated band based in the US, made up of two characters called Pluto and Nebula. They bring their own twist to the underground and LA hip-hop sound which has been gathering pace in recent years, thanks to Flying Lotus and his record label Brainfeeder. In this interview, they tell us about their musical background and influences, who they’ve been working with on Twine and provide several tips for finding and starting to work with people on Twine.

Your musical background and influences.

“Between Pluto and I (Nebula), Pluto has the most background in music. Even before TOXIC MILK began, he was playing on his keyboard and putting random beats together. I just sang a lot in the shower. Then we met and BAM! TOXIC MILK was born.

I would say TOKiMONSTA is our biggest influence. We love to be able to communicate through music and be able to convey emotions through sound. Space is also a huge influence. Both Pluto and I are in love with the unknown so we made that the focus of our group. TOXIC MILK is pretty much our Toxic personalities in the Milky Way. We love trying to make different sounds and we have tons of fun making music together. We are pretty much a mystery to a lot of people. They ask where we are from and we just say “We were born from the stars and raised in Earth’s arms.””

Who you’ve been working with on Twine.

“We’ve worked with a talented bunch. Breakjester (from BAR3n Empire) and A.k.A. We did a song called ‘In Your Head’. We seriously love them and working with them was just amazing. We have more collabs with them coming out soon, so keep an ear out!”

Several tips for how to find and start working with people on Twine

“We understand how hard it is to get your name out there and how difficult it is to find producers or great singers. It’s scary asking people to work with you, but on Twine everybody wants to work with each other. The end goal is to make music and to achieve your dreams and that’s what Twine is allowing you all to do.

So you need to breath. Check out the listings (or create your own listing) and message the people you want to work with. It’s really easy and you get to work with people around the world, like we have!”
