Pages: In his own words

Hi, my name is Steve Page (AKA Pages) and I started my musical career at a young age. I spent most of my formative years playing in bands, recording music in my basement, and spending all my money on CDs in and around southern New Jersey where I grew up. Later, I decided to brave the punishing cold of Syracuse, NY when I left home to study TV, Radio, and Film at Syracuse University at the Newhouse School.PAGES_bw

The Middle of It is a song I co-wrote with Sarah Aument a few years ago – we were both working at a music company – I as a composer, and she as a music supervisor. I had written and produced the instrumental and played it for her while she was out visiting LA (she lives in NYC) – she loved it – wrote lyrics and a melody for it in about a day and we tracked it the following day.

I wrote it shortly after discovering Purity Ring. It was the first group I had heard who was translating trap and big hip hop production to a pop format and I loved it. Then I was listening to Banks a lot – she was working with arguably the most cutting edge hip hop / electronic producers around in my opinion, and I loved the combination of R&B hooks / vocal melody over fresh sounding hip hop production. Flume was also a huge influence with a lot of the synth sounds and rhythmic side chaining / gating.
