WHO IS MARIEKE? Born in 1992 in the middle of The Netherlands. Raised with music, books and lots of cartoons, and already at an early age deeply in love with drawing and writing. In 2014 I graduated at the art academy ArtEZ in Zwolle and finished my Bachelor studies in Illustration – Stories & Design. Stories are all around us, at work, on the street. It’s why I prefer to be on-the-go, outdoors. Image and word belong together, and when I find a story I’d like to share, I first research a method of delivery. Often I find myself combining traditional methods with less traditional ways of working. As a result, my work is best characterized by versatility and a deep understanding of multidisciplinary working methods. In all my story telling, be it in illustration or in words, I focus on the experience and the emotions. Besides being an artist, I love to make music, travel, teaching students about art and climbing volcanos in forests inhabited by black bears (Kamikochi, Japan).…WHO IS MARIEKE?
