Song Lyrics on History of India

Task is to produce English lyrics for a song based on the first part of our documentary, The History of Hindu India: Part One: .

You would be working with an excellent Hindu musician who would provide the melody for the song. The objective is to produce something that fits in Indian musical tradition, but is simple and catchy enough for our target audience: 6th grade students in American middle schools. The song would be 3 1/2 to 4 minutes long and likely be three total for this part one, but that is yet to be determined.

There is a genre of songs created for such educational purposes, often to rap or pop songs. They are called “piggy back” songs when educational and can be considered fair use and not copyright violations. Here are some examples of which the music isn’t too bad, but the videos are pretty amateurish.

Your responsibility would be to analyze our documentary (with our help) and write a song working with our musician. It would be very helpful if you are a Hindu and familiar with Indian music, as this is to be done in Indian style (we’re not doing rap or pop songs…). Most likely we’d come up with an original melody, but may also use something traditional. This is not a commercial release, and the job is work for hire.
