Junior front-end developer: A junior-level role at the heart of our fast-developing digital business

Design Portfolio is seeking a motivated and task-oriented individual to join the growing development team in our London office.

You’ll have a solid grasp of PHP, HTML5 & CSS and be looking to put these to good use in an agency environment.

This role is open to candidates seeking a short to mid-term contract.

Main responsibilities

  • Reporting the teams Development Manager, you will primarily be responsible for managing day-to-day updates across a number of our client’s websites and taking the lead on the end-to-end build and deployment of small to mid-level build projects, working in a project team of designers, QA and project managers.
  • As a growing business with an ever-evolving digital offer, it is imperative that you possess a can-do attitude and won’t have a problem getting stuck in. You might not be the finished article but your inquisitive nature and willingness to challenge the status quo will help us to.
  • This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or individual at the early stages of their career to take up an important role in the digital team with the scope to progress to senior levels

Essential Requirements

  • Experience with PHP based content management systems (Concrete5, Wordpress, Joomla etc)
  • Twitter Bootstrap – or experience of working within a CSS framework, specifically responsive websites
  • HTML5/CSS3
  • JavaScript libraries, jQuery (OO JavaScript*)
  • OO PHP (object orientated)
  • MySQL or another database language
  • Attention to detail and a driven attitude

Additional but non-requisite skills

  • A degree in computer science (or similar background) would be beneficial
  • Experience with Adobe creative suite
  • Apache server / cloud hosting / AWS
  • Linux Command line
  • Familiarity with project management system (JIRA, Trello etc)
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum team environment
  • UX/Usability experience
  • Quality Assurance and testing strategies
  • Ability to debug and test code across multiple devices/browsers
