The National Portrait Gallery houses a unique collection of portraits of the men and women who have helped shape British history and culture. Now numbering over 12,000 portraits the primary collection embraces every medium - oil paintings, drawings, miniatures, photographs, mixed/new media and sculpture. Besides this, the Gallery has a photographs collection of 250,000 images and a reference collection of 80,000 prints. The Gallery has had an increasingly high public profile and now attracts over 2 million visitors to its galleries and regional partnerships.

  • Graphic Designer
  • Fixed Term until 30 June 2020
  • £14,000 per annum (FTE £28,000 per annum)
  • Part-time, 20 hours per week, to include a Monday or Friday

The Gallery is seeking a part-time Graphic Designer with creative flair to support and lead on a range of graphic design projects, with an emphasis on the temporary exhibition and display programme. Reporting to the Head of Design, the post holder will be part of a small, friendly team and will assist in delivering high quality creative design solutions to a wide variety of briefs.

The successful candidate will possess experience in Adobe’s Creative Suite programmes, and an understanding of design and digital media trends. They will be capable of working creatively and collaboratively within brand guidelines, presenting ideas confidently and working across multiple projects simultaneously. The post holder will require a flexible approach to work, be a keen problem solver and be proactive and confident working with colleagues. Working within a fast-paced studio with short lead times and a requirement for quick turn around, they will also need excellent organisational skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines, without compromising on quality.

Previous work experience at and interest in exhibitions and museums is desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to hold a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant design discipline.
