Illustrations for a children's book

I wrote a children’s book about my son a couple years ago and would just read it to my son. Now that he is getting older I thought it would be a great gift for him to have it turned into a real book with illustrations instead of it just being a story in a notebook. I am a single mother and don’t have a lot of money to spend but I would love to work with someone on the illustrations and hopefully get the book completed. The illustrator can be as creative as they would like and my only real request is that the two main characters resemble my son and myself. I know what scenes I would like to be illustrated but would love for someone to read my story and put their own creative input to the illustrations.
