Gordon Lewis began singing at an early age in the church choir and developed a special interest in music after singing hymns with his mother. He soon realized that he enjoyed electric guitar and music in general after his father bought him a Beach Boys cassette when he was young. As his interest in music grew, the more he searched for bands he liked. He later went on to appreciate music in all genres. Gordon picked up saxophone in fifth grade and was taught about music in school while learning to play recorder and how to sing. Gordon went on to pick up the guitar at age 12, inspired by the greats such as Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix. He spent hours upon hours developing his technique, which led him to become even more passionate about music. Feeling the need to perform, Gordon played at coffee shops and any places he could find that would have live music. Gordon took piano lessons, guitar lessons and saxophone lessons throughout high school and college. Along the way, he earned merits for his musical performances in high school and college. He also picked up many other instruments along the way including harmonica, various stringed instruments and woodwinds, such as flute, clarinet, oboe and other saxophones. He also learned percussion, brass, and accordion.Gordon attended Perpich Center for the Arts in Golden Valley, Minnesota for his senior year of high school, where he was able to participate in ensembles and learn more advanced theory and technique. Gordon also studied under James Allen at the MacPhail Center for Music in Minneapolis during his time at Perpich. To further his education, Gordon went on to receive his Associate of Arts Degree from Mesabi Range Community College. Afterwards he moved to Springfield, Missouri to attend Evangel University and Missouri State University. During that time he played in numerous bands, ensembles and orchestras. After college, Gordon taught music at private music studios and began gigging part time; this soon led to full time work. Gordon continues to teach music lessons and play music every chance he gets. He is currently working on getting his music licensed and published for television and film. Gordon wishes to see all of his students learn music and excel on their instruments. He hopes to enlighten every one of his students’ lives through the power of music, enabling each and every one to feel empowered by playing the music they wish to play! Gordon feels that it is important for everyone to play an instrument to feel a sense of achievement and to bring joy to not only themselves but to others, as well!
