The Bunny Chows Carrots or “Onogwaja”, is a proudly South African Maskandi band from Midrand, Gauteng. Manqobizizwe Ncala, following an ancestral prophecy presented to him in a dream, founded the band in 2012. In the dream, 25 year old Manqobizizwe was instructed by his late grandfather Albert Khonzaphi Ncala to continue with his vision of crafting and showcasing traditional Zulu music…This after nearly two generations of not having a musician in the family, and therefore the prophecy was highly symbolic of “the passing down of the mantle”. This founding phenomenon is very similar to what would happen to a Priest, Sangoma or Inyanga’s during the time of their calling. Soon thereafter, Manqobizizwe started teaching himself how to play the acoustic guitar…and as the age old saying goes, “The rest is history”.
The Bunny Chows Carrots is a band that seeks to re-introduce Maskandi music to the modern South African and world societies. in particular the youth. Our music aims to entertain, teach and provoke thought. We are passionate, authentic and sincere in how we create our music and this forms a significant part of our keys to success. The band also aims to position itself as a sustainable brand by making mutually beneficial strategic alliances and partnerships. We are very proud of our heritage and we wish to contribute to restoring national pride by being role models with integrity and discipline.
