"A Pantomime Fantasia" for full symphony orchestra
This piece was recently a runner up in the European Recording Orchestra international composition competition. It is due to receive live performances in the coming year from the Docklands Sinfonia, the Slaithwaite Philharmonic Orchestra and the Scarborough Symphony Orchestra.
The concept of ‘A Pantomime Fantasia’ is a programmatic experience that encapsulates an entire pantomime story in just 10 minutes, for full symphony orchestra.
The piece is very lively and chops and changes as the familiar pantomime storyline develops. It is unashamedly cliched and cheesy in places but still has the integrity of a serious orchestral composition.
It is currently available in two versions – one for a medium sized orchestra (double woodwind and 3 percussionists) and the other is for a large orchestra (triple woodwind and 4 percussionists).
The piece would work well in a Christmas programme – it is a fun piece which will attract pantomime and orchestral fans alike, as well as being a nice introduction to the colours of the orchestra to children who will be able to identify with the storyline and themes.
