uniE621 Craft beer packaging brand refresh
After a five year stretch with their previous designs, Alamo Beer Company elected to refresh the entire line and branding to reflect a new era, not only in their production and brewing, but in craft beer overall. With both designer and company originating from the heart of Texas, Alexis Souza meticulously crafted the entire product line to embody a distinctive charm, featuring a "beauty queen" sash adorned with a prominent logo that elegantly wraps around the entire can. This seamless integration of design elements was achieved by aligning the starting and ending points on opposite sides of the flat design. Her intention was to ensure that the bold sash would captivate the attention of potential customers amidst the metallic details, compelling them to explore the intricacies of the can from various angles. Recognizing the dynamic nature of consumer preferences, she sought to create a design that caters to a diverse audience. The juxtaposition of the large, classic shield against the earthy backdrop of hops color on one side invites consumers seeking a simplistic aesthetic. Simultaneously, the sash continues its journey around the can, revealing a detailed reverse side that resonates with those who appreciate a more artistic and edgy presentation. In the pursuit of a comprehensive brand re-design, each can within the Alamo Beer Company collection boasts unique details carefully incorporated into the upper left half of the design. These distinctive elements are exclusive to each flavor, with each flavor having different illustrations that were specific to various insider information (like the “skateboard astronaut” reflecting the skatepark at the Alamo Beer property, or the antique cars that represent the car shows that are popular there.) With the rebrand into a new era, she felt the need to give respect back to the beer designs of the past that inspired her and pushed the branding of local beer. The illustrations put on the can are a “nod” to the nostalgic beer cap puzzles that once adorned Lone Star Beer bottle caps. It's worth noting that the first "Alamo Beer" flavor was a part of the Lone Star Brand before the era of prohibition, and Alamo Beer Company was the first to use it post-prohibition - making this a special project for both designer and company.
