    BEYOND THE SEA is a short fiction-documentary film about Emmen, one of the first planned cities in the Netherlands, and a home of the textile and metal industry workers. Emmen was built as a social experiment: it had to become the embodiment of a committed, happy and united society. But the planned idyll did not last long or perhaps never existed. In this poetic, sci-fi-like film journey, a speculative future intertwines with the present day narratives of the city, revealing a sometimes complex shift in the community, history and modernist’s dreams. The film is co-produced by ThankEve productions and EOdocs and realised in the context of Teledoc Campus, a collaboration between CoBO, NPO-fonds, Nederlands Filmfonds and de NPO.
