Hi there! My name is Bobby Guard. I am a Denver-based Singer/Songwriter and Producer with over 10 years of experience crafting songs that span a multitude of genres including folk, pop, rock, electronic, and new wave. I have been professionally releasing music under my name for the past 5 years, working remotely and in-studio with session musicians and a tight group of collaborators who have helped me craft some of the sounds you can hear here. For nearly 7 years of my journey, I worked as a Production Designer in the Los Angeles film industry following my studies at the University of Southern California's Film/Television Production program. In between gigs, I built up a decent portfolio in graphic design, copywriting, illustration, and, of course, musical works. I love the diverse range of work I have been able to cater myself toward, in Creative and Administrative Assistant positions with film production and animation companies like Sligo Studios and Extra Credit Studios. While my primary passion is music production, I love working in film, and my very first passion of art is never far behind. Any chance to design a logo, illustrate a book, or come up with a great creature or character design is a thrill to me. I'm always eager to learn about new projects and see how I can best cater to their needs, and I am confident in the power of clear communication to overcome most hurdles that can delay a project. Let's get to work!

    uniE603 Bury Me
"Bury Me" is a throwback to late 70's/early 80's #newwave and #powerpop #music that is loaded with shimmering synthesizers, punchy guitars, and a rolling beat. It's one of my hookier songs, with a layered #vocal that drives home the instrumentation. It's the first single off my debut album, and it was a blast to make!
    uniE603 Can't Go Back
Recorded in the first months of the pandemic, "Can't Go Back" was one of two songs penned by myself for the collaboration EP STOCKHOLM, recorded with Los Angeles artist Importer. As we were quarantined in different states at the time, the collaborative process was very much one filled with Dropbox shares, emails, and note-filled phone calls. When writing this piece, I wanted to convey a tone change through the composition and structure of the song itself. I had played with the melody on the piano in the weeks preceding its writing, and as I worked with the song on Logic Pro X, it gradually grew into the work it is today. While many of the songs in the EP were more collaborative, this piece came together largely in my own bedroom sessions as I built out each section. Importer had the great idea of adding acoustic guitar and hand claps in the sing-song interludes of the second section and inspired a more dynamic bass line for the outro. He also crafted one of my favorite parts, the swirling synth intro that kicks off the piece. I tended to the other instrumentation, beat creation, and filter effects, essentially seeing how much I could get away with at home. Our mixing engineer had his work cut out for him, but we ended up with a lovely and strange end product that reflected our feelings about the world at the time. "Can't Go Back" is a song I'm greatly proud of, both in its compositional elements as well as a showcase of the possibilities for production in dire circumstances. #music #vocal #musicproducer #musicproduction #guitarist #keyboardist #pianist #singer #songwriter #singersongwriter #lyricist #percussion #arranger #composer #musiccomposer #leadvocal #backingvocals
    uniE603 Temporary Secretary
Another work in conjunction with my Engineer's Berklee studies - we were tasked with crafting a cover of any existing song, and we landed on the atonal, arpeggiation-driven oddity "Temporary Secretary" from Paul McCartney's New Wave-tinged McCartney II album. Unlike the A-Side of this record, we only brought in one session musician - our wonderful drummer. I picked up the additional instrumentation: guitars, synthesizers, piano, percussion, vocals, and, of course, typewriter. I wanted to try something with a different flair from the original work's herky-jerky structure, so when composing the demo as a guideline for us all to work from, I tried a number of approaches to the sonics of the piece. I landed on a slowed down version of the sequencer, which sounded somewhat menacing and informed the rather salacious delivery of the song's lyrics. Like the original, contemporary musical works informed the style of this piece - I drew greatly from my love of James Murphy and LCD Soundsystem, bringing a bit of the dance-punk indie sleaze of the 2000s to the table. #music #vocal #musicproducer #musicproduction #guitarist #keyboardist #pianist #singer #songwriter #singersongwriter #lyricist #percussion #arranger #composer #musiccomposer #leadvocal #backingvocals
    uniE603 Bad Dog
This was a fun one. As part of my friend's Berklee studies, we set out to bring some demos of mine to life. I laid out the groundwork on Logic Pro X, arranging instrumentation, writing guitar and bass parts, and crafting the overall soundscape in which we would be playing. After drafting charts for our rhythm section, we brought in some fantastic session players to bring the song to life. Drums, bass, solo guitar, and baritone saxophone were filled in by these pros, while I handled acoustic and electric guitars, keys, percussion, and vocals. My goal was to craft a sound similar to 70s glam rock works like David Bowie's "Cracked Actor" or Mick Ronson's "Only After Dark." I worked closely with my friend who acted as Engineer, overseeing the mixing and mastering process. This one is packed to the brim, so it was a delicate balance at times, and I just love how it came out. #music #vocal #musicproducer #musicproduction #guitarist #keyboardist #pianist #singer #songwriter #singersongwriter #lyricist #percussion #arranger #composer #musiccomposer #leadvocal #backingvocals
    uniE603 Meshes of the Afternoon
"Meshes of the Afternoon" was a fully home-produced track, made in the thick of the pandemic without any studio capabilities. I wrote the song shortly after arriving home in Colorado from Los Angeles, and composed the piece in whole on acoustic guitar. I designed the drum patterns, bass, guitar, and piano lines, and contributed the various vocals heard on the track. A good friend of mine translated the drum line as written to a physical MIDI kit to contribute more dynamics to the sound. Mixing and mastering was handled by my frequent collaborator ColorKey. I wanted to capture some of the homespun grassroots sound of early Asylum Records releases and was listening to a lot of Judee Sill and The Band - comfort music in a troubling time. It's a nice success in terms of a full sound without much in terms of personnel, and I'm quite fond of the chorus hook and bridge. #music #vocal #songwriting #producing #singer #lyricist #guitarist #pianist #logicprox #musicproducer #musicproduction #backingvocals #beatdesign
