My name is Evan Hutchings and I am freelance photographer based in Woodbridge Detroit, MI. I have been taking pictures using various cameras since early 2014. This came about when I learned from a friend all through high school but finally wanted to get my own camera later on. I started by using my moms old film cameras and got my first digital Nikon, which I still have to this day. From there I moved to Detroit and my roommate was starting a non profit to build a DIY skate park down the street from our house. I helped him the first couple days and I realized something very special was happening. I knew I had to start taking pictures to document this process. This went on for five years! We held countless parties, events, contest, skate lessons, and we learned a lot along the way. I took photos almost every single day as if it was my job. In 2020 I decided to start making a photo book about it to make sure the story was told forever. I made a pitch deck and got funding for the book in 2022 and the I self published the book. The book is called “The Wig” named after the skate park and it came out September 1st, 2022. I have sold it in twenty different retail locations, it is available in the Detroit public library, and now the park and our story live on forever. On top of that I have worked taking pictures over the years for companies like Stroh’s, 1xRun, Red Bull, Vice, Shinola Hotel, Vans, and Turkish Airlines.
