Paul Birtwell
Preston, United Kingdom

Self produced singer/songwriter, multi instrumentalist, live performer and photographer. I also write instrumental tracks for film and TV. In addition to my own personal music creation i co write songs with singer/songwriter Annette Reis. This music has been likened to the songs of Roberta Flack. Our songwriting team is known as 'Velvet Landscape'. "Velvet Landscape is a R&B, Adult Contemporary songwriting duo from Helmshore, UK. Made up of Paul Birtwell, and Annette Reis, this duo produces a new clear and envisioned sound that will allow people who don't like this genre to appreciate the craft. Craft is a good way to describe what this pair does. The craft of the song, of the performance, of the idea, of the art. They write songs that you can grove into and songs that you can just sit and enjoy. Diversified and pure strength through creativity would be the most direct explanation of how this band feels when listened to." — The Independent Music Scene U.K. artist and guitarist Paul Birtwell's "Continuous Light" is a mixture of acoustic guitar with synthesizer keys, and programmed drums. The arrangements have plenty of dynamic contrast, and Paul is a very tasteful player. I like the way he clearly gets to the point of what he's trying to express with economy of notes, but with great attention to detail. For example in "Field of Horses", the theme has very nice string lines that enhance the melody and sections, but sound natural and don't get in the way of the main guitar. There's electric bass on some of the songs, and Paul switches between acoustic and electric. There's even alto saxophone on "Shine", and as with all the songs on the CD, nothing is too loud or too fast. The sax and guitar sounds blend well, and the drums keep a steady light rock feel. About vocalists

Vocals are a really important part of most musical genres and vocal roles range from singing the main melody to providing backing or harmony vocals. Some vocalists also write the melody line and lyrics, but songwriting is normally considered a separate skill, known as topline.

Vocalists on Twine can provide everything from features to full length vocals in almost any genre. A high quality vocal can help lift your songs to another level. The same goes for commercial music. For things like radio adverts, a good song can be really attention-grabbing - but if your singing sounds like a dying cat, getting a singer will be necessary to get those all important conversions.

On Twine, you'll find talented professional vocalists with a wide variety of experience in almost any genre.
