Aged only 32 Johann Scheerer is an artist in his own right. He is a musician, songwriter, producer, engineer & sole owner of the unique Clouds Hill Recordings studio in Hamburg (Germany). Johann first started to write & produce music at the age of 17 in his parent’s house, using an 8- track mini disc recorder. Back then Johann found it quite challenging working in analog with an 8- track cassette or tape recorder. “8–track mini disc was a very strange (not to say rubbish) format for me, it was terrible to handle & it marked the major transition from analog to digital home recording. However in the end I spend sleepless nights to work around the difficulties. In my opinion analog tape offers the best chance and sound for recordings to survive in the future. I use them to create great sounding high-definition digital masters.” Nowadays, Johann often compares producing music to mountaineering. “You study it a lot, you´re maybe interested in special techniques and you start the journey well equipped. But in the end, when it comes down to face the reality, I have to improvise to achieve the results and sound I want.” Johann drives off to counterbalance strong-minded artists (others might use the word difficult artists). He absolutely loves to develop songs from scratch with raw talented writers or musicians. Johann designs parameters in which to work efficiently and has found this to aid immensely in increasing creativity but reducing studio costs for clients, this way of working is further supported by making full use of the abundant resources at Clouds Hill Recordings. He always leaves his own mark but more importantly is always conscious of developing the talent of the artists and their songs.
