Hello, My name is Christopher Lazar and I'm a freelance filmmaker living and working in Toronto for seventeen years. In that time, I have cultivated a wealth of knowledge and experience in the film industry from development and pre-production, to production, and post-production. I began my journey as a production assistant in 2007 in Toronto's music video scene, shadowing some of the city's most prolific directors. This low-budget, fast-paced environment was a proving ground where I learned invaluable lessons about creative problem solving and time management. Being exposed to all aspects of a production, I experienced an epiphany for my career; great editors make great filmmakers. A firm grip on the editorial process informs my decisions as a director on set because I have put the puzzle together in my head and on paper before a single frame is shot. This allows me to manage my time wisely so as to effectively allocate attention and resources to certain pieces of the puzzle. I believe this gives me a unique edge compared to other filmmakers who don't emphasize knowledge in post-production, and pays dividends in quality and quantity of footage at the end of a shoot day. As an editor not confined to any medium or genre, I have worked on countless music videos, commercials, documentaries, web series, and feature films. My experience in different sectors has allowed me to cultivate a visual literacy or creative sixth sense, able to identify the strengths and weaknesses, and elevate content to it's maximum potential.
