Responsibilities:

• Edit and publish stories from our busy Politics and Washington team that covers topics, including the White House, Congress, the 2024, criminal justice and Supreme.
• Optimize content, paying special attention to headlines, SEO and fields visible to social audiences.
• Coach reporters with varying levels of experience.
• Lead not only on reporting and accuracy but also fairness and context.
• Use social and other tools to spot high-interest items.
• Uphold the highest standards of journalistic integrity, ethics and credibility.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in journalism or any other subject or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least 5 years of experience in professional journalism experience.
• The ability to work with reporters to refine and elevate copy.
• A talent for both careful line editing and helping to craft lively headlines.
• An eagerness to use a variety of tools, including SEO, to help stories find their widest possible audience.
• You must be willing to work some weekend shifts.
• Employment is contingent on passing a post-offer pre-employment background check.
