Overview:

• Multi-award-winning drama series focusing on the staff and patients at the Holby City Emergency Department.
• Balances gritty realism with high drama and tackles controversial and taboo issues.
• Requires a Gaffer to handle practical aspects of lighting sets and locations.
• Works closely with the Lighting Director and Director of Photography to fulfill the creative vision for the production’s lighting.

Responsibilities:

• Reports to the Lighting Director.
• Discusses lighting aspects of the production with relevant heads of department during pre-production.
• Handles crewing, equipment requirements, shooting dates and durations.
• Conducts detailed risk assessments, identifies potential problems, and suggests solutions.
• Works closely with camera, sound, and production personnel to create a safe and creative environment during shoots.
• Requires flexibility to work in outside broadcast venues, studios, or with location crews.

Required:

• Certificate in Design and Management of Temporary Electrical Systems BS7909.
• Deep knowledge of achievable lighting options for different productions in various studios or locations.
• Extensive experience as a production electrician, preferably with prior experience as a Gaffer.
• Ability to work diplomatically and sensitively with artists, contributors, crew members, and the public.
• In-depth understanding of circuits, power supplies, cables, fuses, and other electrical components.
• Ability to resolve conflicts and influence professional opinions.
• Team management skills.
• Passion and knowledge of dramas, especially with Casualty.

Desirable:

• Qualified to C&G 17th edition.
