About us

Sequential Potential Comics (SPC) is a small business in Nashville, TN. We are a professional, innovative, and creative company. We work with scientists, researchers, and organizations to distill their knowledge and illuminate their impacts through the colorful medium of comics. Our comics help people understand the processes and evidence of complex research and apply those findings to their own lives.

Experienced Scriptwriter

We are looking for an experienced Scriptwriter to join our team of freelance writers and comic artists. The ideal candidate will have a passion for writing, a strong command of the English language, and experience writing scripts for a comic, film, or other visual format. The successful candidate will be able to read and understand client research and strategic goals quickly, develop original content scripts that connect client content with narrative in a comic form, and meet firm deadlines. This is an excellent opportunity for a comic writer or graphic novelist to work with a dynamic team, hone their writing skills, and gain experience with an artist-supportive and innovative company.

SPComics Standard Script Rate: $125/comic page. This rate includes the expectations below. If additional edits are needed beyond two rounds, SPC will negotiate additional rates to compensate your time.

This position is for remote, by-contract scriptwriting, but we have a strong preference to connect with someone living in the Nashville area for potential growth opportunities.

Applicants MUST attach sample solo-authored scripts and a link to a portfolio to their application to be considered.

Expectations and responsibilities for each project:

  • Attend a lift-off meeting with the client and project manager to get to know the project and its objectives.
  • If the comic is more than a one-page abstract, provide a detailed outline and character descriptions to project manager for client approval before work on the script begins.
  • Work with provided script templates to ensure all information is provided to SPC and their client, including clear visual descriptions for artists and rough sketches of proposed frame layout.
  • Write the first draft of the script, upload it to Dropbox in the Script folder, and alert the project manager.
  • Revise script draft after initial client feedback, upload it to Dropbox in the Script folder, and alert the project manager.
  • Gather reference photos for major persons, places, and things in the script the line artist will need and upload them to Dropbox in the References folder.
  • Provide a second round of revisions, if necessary, based on client feedback of the revised draft

Other expectations:

  • Attend virtual team meetings if needed
  • Respond to communications from SPC, project manager, and clients within one business day
  • Plan for and meet deadlines, including revision periods
  • Communicate with project manager, creative director, and team members via email, text, and Asana project management system
  • Work with team members to create high quality comics and illustrations
  • Present and communicate creative, narrative, and visual concepts to clients and team members prior to, during, and after script creation
