Overview:

This is a contract position providing UX/UI Design support to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. As the UX/UI Designer 2, you will play a crucial role in providing computer-generated graphics and creative consultation to develop captivating visual content for various The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) projects. Your expertise will encompass a wide range of tasks, from creating original artwork and typographic layouts to offering creative guidance for a diverse array of publications. Your dedication to producing high-quality print and web products will contribute to SEC’s impactful communications and outreach efforts.

As the UX/UI Designer 2 for SEC Communications, you will be part of a dynamic team that values creativity, collaboration, and adherence to high-quality standards. Your contributions to developing visually captivating materials will contribute to SEC’s success in effectively communicating with stakeholders and the public. Together, we will create impactful graphics and publications that uphold SEC’s reputation as a reliable and authoritative government institution.

Key responsibilities:

  • Graphics Development: Utilize your skills in computer-generated graphics to produce visually compelling artwork and typographic layouts for both print media and digital display projects. Your creations will extend across websites, social media platforms, digital displays (e.g., TV monitors), and printed products, delivered in various formats as needed.
  • Publication Development: Provide creative consultation and production services for an array of publications, including annual reports, multi-color brochures, graphic illustrations, posters, PowerPoint presentations, charts, program booklets, conference materials, marketing collateral, courtroom exhibits, educational programs, standard forms, award certificates, and mail-merge documents.
  • SEC Division Support: Extend your expertise to various SEC divisions and offices, such as the Office of Financial Management (OFM), by offering graphic design, creative consultation, and production services for Commission publications, including the Agency Financial Report (AFR), Summary of Performance and Financial Information (SPFI), Annual Performance Report (APR), Annual Performance Plan (APP), and Congressional Budget Justification.
  • Pre-press and Post Print Production: Take charge of “pre-press and post print” production, ensuring print-ready files are properly prepared and generated for commercial print vendors. This includes verifying image conversion to CMYK, suitable resolution (minimum 300 dpi at 100%), extended bleeds (1/4 inch), resolving font conflicts, and removing unnecessary artwork from packaged files.
  • 508-Compliant Files: Create and generate 508-compliant files for SEC reports, publications, and assigned documents, ensuring accessibility for all users.
  • Software Utilization: Employ a variety of SEC-provided hardware and software applications, including Adobe Creative Cloud Suite and MS Office Suite, to create print, digital, and web products

Requirements:

  • Four or more years’ experience and Associate’s Degree in graphic design or related field degree (or equivalent experience).
  • Prepares design files for print and web production including creating films, custom illustrations, blue lines, and match prints; provides file layout to fit presses; and corrects errors in print-ready files (e.g., missing images and fonts, color correcting, photograph manipulation, etc.).
  • Performs all aspects of computer-based design, layout and production for printed materials (brochures, posters, fliers, reports, magazines, etc.), websites, electronic documents (e-newsletters, banner ads, etc.) and booth displays.
  • Involved with the planning, coordination and control of production processes to ensure the correct amount is produced at the right cost and at the right level of quality.
  • Knowledgeable of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Ability to produce 508-compliant web files from pdfs and other documents.
  • Ability to multitask and work under tight deadlines and schedules.
  • Ability to work beyond normal working hours and (federal/religious) holidays when needed.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Place of Performance:

Some on-site work may be required at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, 100 F Street, NE, Washington, DC, 20549, Office of Public Affairs, 100 F Street NE, Washington, DC 20549; however, the majority of the work will be performed off site within commuting distance of the SEC.

40 hours per week for all full time contractor personnel; 10 to 35 hours per week for part-time contractor personnel.

Salary: $127,000
