Music Minister Job Description

These procedures are a framework of requirements and responsibilities designed to offer our efforts in a pleasing way to God.
Music Minister Requirements:
- The Music Minister will be a strong leader possessing a passion for traditional and contemporary worship, a vision for musical excellence, the ability to lead instrumentalists and vocalists, advanced skills for playing the piano and keyboard and the ability to lead congregational/choral singing. Through our worship, God will be praised and glorified, people will be connected with each other, and the un-churched and non-believers will hear the proclamation of the good news of Jesus Christ.
Qualifications for this ministry:
- Must have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ and be striving to grow in that relationship
- The ability to read music (Preferred)
- The ability to direct congregational singing
- The ability to organize and lead choirs, ensembles and instrumentalists
- A heart for personal and corporate worship of God
- A passion to involve and equip people for ministry (Discipleship)
- A willingness to work with a team concept
- A yearning to reach the lost
- An understanding of the theology of worship
- Become a member of the Church (Preferred)
Music Minister Worship Procedures:
- Reporting Relationship: The Music Minister will be under the direction of the Senior Pastor or designee.
- He/She will meet regularly with the pastor or designee for planning, brainstorming, reporting and evaluation. The Music Minister will also meet regularly with the other key leaders in the Music Ministry.
- Vacation days will be coordinated with the Senior Pastor or designee.
Responsibilities: (including but not limited to)
- Work in concert with the Senior Pastor or designee to develop and coordinate music for the worship services that fit the theme of the service.
- Recruit, lead and train the Adult Choir and Praise Team or another ensemble.
- Develop key music ministries within the congregation and supervise the organization and direction of such individuals/groups:
- a. Organist/Keyboard
- b. Pianist
- c. Vocal/Instrumental Soloists
- d. Vocal/Instrumental Ensembles
- Consult with, involve the video, sound and light technicians of Digital Evangelism.
- Select music for and lead praise and worship; rehearse at least once per week.
- Schedule guest musicians, when necessary.
- Provide input into all events and services which require music.
- Plan special programs for holiday services.
- Maintenance of the music library and musical instruments.
- Administer the Music Ministry by encouraging teamwork and mutual support.
- Operate within the department budget.
- Connect with other key ministries that serve at worship services, both internal and external ministries.
- Arrange for a suitable substitute in the event of absence.
- Attend monthly church leadership meetings
- Attend regular services and encourage music ministry members to attend regular services
- Seek ongoing training for themselves and music ministry members
- Schedule weekly musician’s practice
- Attend regular scheduled services for their duration
- Accompany Church/Pastor on speaking engagements
- Salary is negotiable
- Prepare Music Ministry yearly calendar
