About the Department/Unit

The Antiracist Research and Policy Center at American University generates scholarly research, educational tools, and policy analysis geared towards dismantling racism in its many forms. We build multidisciplinary initiatives for fostering racial justice, decolonial politics, and intersectional liberation by forging relationships across AU and with external changemakers in the DC region and beyond by partnering with external policy and practitioner stakeholders, advocates, and activists.

Summary/Objective

The Social Media Assistant is responsible for working with ARPC’s Communications Intern on creating and posting to the Center’s social media accounts and reports to the Executive Director.

Essential Functions

  • Assist in creating, scheduling and posting social media posts and campaigns
  • Assist in maintaining ARPC social media presence by sharing, following, and responding to social media posts in consultation with the Communications intern and ARPC leadership
  • Collaborate with Communications intern to develop social media campaigns and convert promotional materials to social media formats.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • Expected up to 10 hours a week during the regular semester.

Salary Range

  • $17.00/hour.

Required Education and Experience

  • This position is restricted to students with a Federal Work Study award.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • This position requires several skills including proficiency with graphic design tools, self-motivation, initiative, resourcefulness, collaboration, dependability, organization, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency creating and posting materials on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter/X and experience with LinkTree desired.
