Description:

This Principal UX Designer will sit on our Design Systems team, working on their custom Figma design system. The next step of their design systems projects is to make it an atomic design system, where there will be reusable components that the want to use on the customer experience side of the website and then converted into content platform which is their homegrown CMS.

We are investing in building out tokens within their existing design system. For example, the tokens are the building blocks of components and of design systems. The team has used tokens in simple and baseline ways so far, so they are looking to really level up and build out those capabilities. They have just completed letter track of work on semantic color which has been a really nice unlock for them in terms of brand and geography, geographic differentiation, for our websites and our digital properties. They need to take that many steps further, so they are really looking at layout and density. They’re also looking at type and font, as well as motion and animation tokens.

Long story short, our Design Systems team is really starting to leverage what they’ve done in the token space, moving that to the upper level, and then creating a more expressive design system and the ability to create differentiation and one through their design system vs it being b-spoke on top of the design system.

That’s what they are looking to invest in with this position. This Designer will make sure that the tokens piece work as well as the tokens will then need to pull through to our custom CMS. This Designer will need to understand how we set up their design system, components that then sit on top of our design system, and how they feed into their headless CMS, which enables to drive content at scale in personalized and tailored ways, setting the architecture and the foundation and the scaffolding for what those experiences will look like out of the CMS.

We have had their design systems team decreased in size quite rapidly over two successive reductions in workforce. There’s obviously a long tail effect on how that has impacted the team, and they are saying goodbye to an associate director with pretty deep experience in design systems across their career, which is leading to them needing some senior experience in design systems, specifically Figma.

They are looking for an executionary resource to come in with much-needed firepower and expertise within growing and improving a Figma design system. They are not looking for someone who has built custom code within a design system specifically, more for someone who has built design systems on Figma in an existing platform. All components are already on Figma.
