About:

This Christmas, Theatre Royal Plymouth presents the Lyric Hammersmith and Pins and Needles production of Raymond Briggs’ Father Christmas.

Raymond Briggs’ Father Christmas is warm, magical and full of humor. Pins and Needles’ adaptation of the book for the stage uses a solo performer to play Father Christmas, a puppeteer to animate his beloved pets, and a musician to provide a live score. As with the book, spoken word is kept to a minimum, focusing on physical action and rich visuals accompanied by live music and sound effects.

Dates:

  • Rehearsals will take place at TR2, TRP’s Production & Learning Centre, Plymouth & performances will be in The Drum, Theatre Royal Plymouth.
  • Rehearsals - 6th November– 17th November 2023
  • Get-In & Tech– 21st & 22nd November 2023
  • Performances – 23rd November – 31st December 2023
We are looking for a local Stage Manager to help bring the magic of Father Christmas to Plymouth. This is a busy track for a Stage Manager and involves wearing a Christmas jumper and appearing on stage for some of set changes.

Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Maintaining a productive and safe environment during the rehearsal process
  • Liaising with the props departments at TR2 in order to source any required props, and ensuring these are returned on completion of the production.
  • Working closely with the technical team to communicate decisions being made in the rehearsal room and support forming the prompt book.
  • Ensuring rehearsals don’t overrun and appropriate breaks are taken.
  • Arrange company calls with fellow Creative and Production team members.
  • Managing the backstage areas during the production week and performances and leading on resets in between performances, as there will be multiple shows a day.
  • Manage technical rehearsals.
  • Complete show reports and rehearsal documentation.
  • Attend production meetings where appropriate.
  • To ensure the safety of the company during rehearsals and performance adhere to all Health and Safety Legislation
  • To ensure compliance with all company policies, particularly Equal Opportunities and Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults.
  • To act consistently and in a professional manner at all times
  • To carry out any other reasonable duties that may be requested from time to time.
