Accountability:

This position is accountable to the Pastor and Session. The Personnel Committee will review this position annually.

Job Responsibilities:

• To practice in advance appropriate selections, including a prelude, offertory, postlude, hymns, choruses, and liturgy for worship and other special events.
• Accompany and direct choir and congregational singing during worship services and other special events and services.
• Musician will bring multiple varieties of music and will build and enhance the music repertoire that is generationally appropriate.
• Facilitate at least 1 weekly rehearsal barring no unforeseen circumstance (ex. Weather, illness, etc.) and play the organ, piano, or keyboard as required for the purpose of accompanying the choir.
• Arrive at scheduled events at least 10 mins early to coordinate possible last-minute changes and to review plans with the pastor, music director, worship leader, sound technician, any special musicians, and others involved in special music.
• Musician will travel with choir to agreed upon invited events for no additional compensation.
• Arrange for a qualified substitute musician when absent and notify pastor and music director in advance. If substitute is unavailable, notify the pastor, clerk and choir 2 weeks prior to the Sunday.
• Be available to provide music for funerals at Woodland for members at no additional compensation with the first right of refusal if families request another musician. For inactive/non-members, the price for use of the church and musician for funerals is predetermined. See the current “Fees for use of Woodland Presbyterian Church for inactive members and persons who are not members” price sheet for compensation for the musician. All wedding compensation is predetermined by the wedding party and musician.
• If there is inclement weather and Sunday worship is cancelled the musician will be expected to play during makeup worship service as determined by the session.

Evaluation:

Performance reviews will be conducted annually by the Pastor and Session. The personnel committee will annually review the adequacy of compensation.

Qualifications:

• Degree in music performance and/or 3-5 years experience in performing piano/keyboard/organ music in a weekly setting.
• Demonstrate skill in sight-reading, hymn/music performance and choir accompaniment.
• 3-5 years’ experience and proven competence in working with a variety of age groups and types of music.
• Demonstrate and maintain good interpersonal skills as part of a team.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Degree in piano/organ performance.

Compensation:

Monthly compensation depends on qualifications and experience. 2 weeks of paid vacation each year after 1 year of service.

Requirements for Attendance:

Will attend all practices and worship services throughout the year.
