Summary:
The main function of a technical writer is to write technical materials, such as equipment materials, appendices, or operating and maintenance instructions. A typical technical writer is responsible for organizing, editing, and maintaining technical records and files.
Job Responsibilities:
- Organize material and complete writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
- Maintain records and files of work and revisions.
- Confer with the client to establish technical specifications and to determine the subject material to be developed for publication.
Skills:
- Verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Basic ability to work independently and manage one’s time.
- Basic knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
- Basic knowledge of media production, communication and dissemination techniques and methods.
- Basic knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
- Basic knowledge of computer software, such as Adobe, JavaScript, Oracle, etc.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 2-4 years of experience required.
Position’s Contributions to Work Group:
The candidate will be creating disassembly and assembly manuals written from a field service perspective.
Typical task breakdown:
- The candidate will be authoring service manuals in a clean shop environment.
- The candidate will be expected to adhere to all safety standards.
- Using 3D models to create graphics for service information documents.
Interaction with team:
Working as a team on assigned projects requiring heavy collaboration. High level of working with others, minimal independent work.
Education & Experience Required:
- Two-year degree in a relevant field.
- 2+ years’ relevant experience.
Technical Skills
(Required)
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Extensive computer experience (proficient with Microsoft suite, etc.).
(Desired)
- Diesel engine experience (assembly/disassembly).
- Knowledge of safe service repair for Client engines, generators, and heavy equipment.
- Technical writing experience.
- Knowledge of 3D models (Pro/e, Creo, Teamcenter Visualization preferred).
- Knowledge of safe lifting, rigging, and hoist operations.
- A machine shop or farm experience.
Job Types: Contract, Full-time
Salary: $16.89 - $31.00 per hour
