Job Description:

The designer is responsible for the planned financial performance, delivery reliability, and customer satisfaction for all projects assigned. They will work directly with the project engineer to determine the proper analytical system integration solution for the application. They will also assist in the evaluation/selection of equipment to ensure the solution offered meets requirements of the customer specifications. The designer will create detailed drawings for shelters, cabinets, or racks including various types of drawings such as plan views, elevations, electrical power/signal/communication wiring diagrams, utility piping and tubing schematics, sample conditioning system flow schematics, detailed sample probe drawings, alarm system (relay or PLC) detailed wiring diagrams, and fabrication drawings. The designer should have experience with 2D AutoCAD and be transitioning to 3D drawings using Solid Edge 3D software. They will also be responsible for developing the project Bill of Material, creating material requisitions for the purchase of equipment, supporting craftsmen during the production phase of the project, and finalizing design documentation to represent the as-built condition.

Requirements:

- 5+ years of experience working with a manufacturer of analytical equipment or analyzer system integrator is required.

- Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD software.

- 3D experience and strong working knowledge of Solid Edge or similar type 3D software (Autodesk Inventor or Solidworks) is preferred.

- An AS Degree in Engineering Design or Technology or a BS Degree in Engineering Technology is preferred.

- General system design knowledge, including understanding of electrical equipment such as panelboards, transformers, circuit breakers, lighting, receptacles, and disconnect switches.

- Ability to calculate transformer size and balance phases, specify panelboards, and size circuit breakers/conductors for each user that is to be powered.

- Working knowledge of relay logic and PLCs for alarm system applications.

- Working knowledge of analytical systems integration, including analyzer shelters and sample conditioning systems.

- Knowledge of codes/standards such as NEC, IEC, API, and NFPA.

- Understanding of hazardous area classifications and experience with NEMA 7 electrical equipment for hazardous areas.

- Familiarity with various analyzers, including Gas Chromatographs, UV/IR Continuous Gas Analyzers, Paramagnetic Continuous Gas Analyzers, FTNIR, CEMS, pH & conductivity, TOC, and Zirconium Oxide/Catalytic Bead stack analyzers.

- Additional knowledge of software such as SAP, ChemCAD, and Visual Basic is a plus.

Other Information:

- The current project drawings are created in 2D AutoCAD .dwg format, but the company is in the process of transitioning to 3D drawings using Solid Edge 3D software.
