Job Description

Seeking experienced book cover designer to join small team. Enchanted Ink Publishing is a small company that provides editing and design services to indie authors. We’re looking for a professional book cover designer with a strong ability to create eye-catching book covers for a variety of fiction and nonfiction projects. A potential candidate has experience in the publishing field, either with a publishing house or as a freelancer, and can be relied upon to complete work in a timely and professional fashion. This is a contract position, and work will be available on an as-needed basis. We’re looking for someone who has the time to take one to four projects a month. It’s our preference to form long-lasting relationships with our contractors, and our current contractors have been with us for a number of years. Please don’t apply if you are unable to commit to a long-term contractor position.

Responsibilities

- Create visually appealing designs for various digital platforms and print-on-demand companies

- Collaborate with our formatting team to provide title pages, design elements, etc.

- Create cover designs for clients based on design briefs and industry standards

- Use design software such as Adobe Creative Suite to create high-quality cover designs

- Incorporate author feedback and revise designs to accomplish author’s end goals

- Ensure designs are consistent with publishing guidelines and standards

- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in book cover design

Requirements

- Proven experience as a book cover designer or similar role

- Understanding of book cover requirements as laid out by Kindle Direct Publishing, IngramSpark, B&N Press, Lulu, etc.

- Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)

- Strong understanding of visual design principles, industry standards, and best practices

- Ability to read a design brief and create marketable book covers that fit current publishing trends

- Must provide PSD files, PDFs, JPEGs, and any other requested assets for company’s use

- Ability to create and manipulate stock photos and design elements using photo manipulation software

- Ability to access commercially licensed assets and stock photos via Envato, Shutterstock, Deposit Photos, etc.

- Excellent communication and collaboration skills

- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines

- Ability to manage and update project management software
