Job Description
The Lead UX designer will work with agency partners and residents to iteratively design the website using human-centered design practices. Responsibilities include:
- Owning the design process and standards for the website
- Owning and managing updates to the City’s Digital Style and Content Guide
- Working with agency content managers and designers to identify user needs and ensure agency design and UX meet those needs
- Leading and conducting user experience (UX) research and design
- Leading design sessions to gain insights into user behavior
- Translating user insights into digital interactions
- Creating personas and other design process artifacts through user research and data
- Defining interaction models and evaluating success
- Developing workflows, wireframes, and prototypes related to user needs
- Visually designing digital graphics, user interfaces, and team presentations
- Working closely with the development team to build and evaluate new experiences on the city website
- Building trust and partnerships by working alongside agency partners
- Helping grow the City’s human-centered approaches and spread design best practices in collaboration with web professionals across City agencies
Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Five (5) years of experience in user experience (UX), user interface (UI), and service design; experience in digital is strongly preferred
- Deep empathy and understanding of equity and inclusiveness, particularly as these show up in technology
- Experience implementing accessibility standards in digital products
- Exceptional written, verbal, and visual communication skills
The following are desirable experiences or traits, but not required:
- Comfort in high-pressure, challenging environments and an enterprising spirit
- Deep familiarity with design frameworks
- Experience leading human-centered design workshops
- Familiarity with interaction design and information architecture
- Knowledge of front-end development is a plus
- Strong organizational and people skills
