Job Description

As a global gaming company, we’ve helped millions to fight their way through fearsome mobs in Minecraft Dungeons, battle each other and the environment in Rust Console Edition and most recently worked with Bethesda Game Studios to craft new adventures for Vault Dwellers around the world in Fallout 76. Most recently, we worked with Rockstar Games to bring the beloved western experience Red Dead Redemption and its horror companion Undead Nightmare together for the first time on the Nintendo Switch and modern PlayStation systems. We’re looking for an Undergraduate UI Artist Placement to join our award winning team in Middlesbrough (UK), home to the beautiful North Yorkshire coastline and countryside. This opportunity offers a year-long industry placement between September 2024 - August 2025 with a salary of £22,000 for a 2nd year university student currently studying an art related degree.

Requirements

We’re on the hunt for a student who has gone beyond the requirements of their course and with this in mind, we’re happy to look at examples of your own projects so feel free to include them with your online application.

  • Good visual design skills with regard to colour theory, shapes, layout and typography with great sensitivity to user-system interaction
  • Ability to solve problems creatively and effectively, and an ability to clearly articulate reasoning behind those decisions
  • 2D and 3D illustrative ability both freehand and technical vector art skillsets
  • Some experience on a variety of platforms including console and PC
  • Some experience in animation and special effects (After Effects / Flash or similar)
  • Good knowledge using Adobe Suite (After Effects, Illustrator and Photoshop)
  • Some experience using Unity / Unreal UI engines
  • A portfolio showing good basic foundational graphic design/iconography skills

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • With support, you’ll work closely with the art and design team to concept, experiment, explore and develop a wide variety of game UI styles and assets, including buttons, icons, frames and menu designs, ensuring any work produced is in-line with the project’s technical and artistic direction.
  • You’ll have the opportunity to work with and learn from industry veterans to help push your skills and talent to the next level.

WHAT DOES SELECTION LOOK LIKE?
