I'm a Developer, Technical Coach, Team Lead and Trainer who specialises in helping people and teams perform at their best and deliver quality software projects. After a brief foray as an electronics engineer, I gradually migrated to the Dark Side and now have over 20 years of experience in the software industry. In that time I have witnessed the good, the conventional and the downright stupid. The diversity of my experience gives me a unique perspective of the industry rooted in sound professional engineering principles, not to mention a severe allergy to corporate stupidity. This allows me to be equally at home cutting code, advising management or coaching teams. Most recently, I have worked with clients including BSkyB, Car Phone Warehouse, Ford and Specsavers. Note that the day rate will vary according to the complexity of the project, and the amount of coaching/leadership required for existing team members. --- **Employment and project experience** Many and varied. Here's a taster: * UK Consultancy - Ran multiple Scrum Alliance three-day Certified Scrum Developer courses, both public and corporate, as a REP Registered Trainer. * Broadcaster - Coached several teams in agile processes over an extended period, helping them with engineering practices. Improved the quality of the software, and highlighted ongoing quality issues with third party suppliers. Coached Scrum Masters into post, making them more effective. * Startup - Introduced basic engineering disciplines to improve responsiveness to change. Helped make deployments automated and more reliable. Initiated a system redesign and migration program to incrementally change the existing design to use modern frameworks and architectures. * Swiss Bank - Worked with high discipline TDD teams to successfully deliver financial futures products for financial advisors. * Government - Produced a major software system, aided by a development team of hand-picked consultants. Working directly with end customers, the innovative design was highly successful and well received. The ability to provide feedback on the regular releases was particularly appreciated. Security Cleared role. * Motor Manufacturer - Worked alongside a well respected consultancy to introduce basic agile practices to improve software quality in their UK teams. --- **Qualifications and education** _Chartered Engineer_ _BSc in Electronics with subsidiary Maths_ at Reading University
