DAXEON Studios – TV Pilot Location Unit Director

Film Director

DAXEON Studio is developing a new history based television pilot called “The History of…”. We have received a micro-grant to develop the show concept and produce a pilot to be submitted for potential pitch to both public and private broadcasting agencies.

The show is a half hour (22 filmed minutes) exploration of small towns with interesting histories in America. The show basically asks and then attempts to answer the questions:

  1. Why is this town here?
  2. Why is it called X?
  3. What makes this town unique?
  4. What interesting has happened here?
  5. What is a true piece of history about this town that people may not know?
  6. What is something about this town that people think is true but isn’t?
  7. Why should I visit here?

We are looking for a student pursuing an education in Media or the Arts to come on board and assist in production of the pilot as the shooting director.

This will be a part-time position where you can largely set you own hours except for the scheduled production meetings, which we will coordinate with you on a good time for all. The week of the location shoot will require 2 full time days.

Currently the pilot is planning to be filmed in Central City, Colorado, in September 2018.

The selected candidate will receive full Director credits on the pilot roll. A large part of your motivation for this position should be to build experiences and enhance your resume.

The Executive Producer is heavily involved in setting the vision of the pilot and will work with the Director to achieve a very specific vision. The primary responsibilities of the Director will be to own the coordination and quality of the shoot, including working to plan and prepare for logistics, quality camera work, quality sounds, and successful management of the shoot logistics.

Working in conjunction with the DAXEON Executive Producer and the Location Manager, the Location Unit Director will:

  1. Plan and implement a clear clean visual style indicative of modern television host-based location documentaries.
  2. Create and execute a shoot schedule in place of a script. The shooting schedule will identify location and topic goals, and maintain a general narrative ensuring proper camera coverage and sound quality, and several takes of each scene, such that there is an abundance of material for post editing.
  3. Work with the Location Manager who is to coordinate with necessary local officials to ensure all permits and notifications are obtained in a timely manner.
  4. Work with local safety officials, as necessary, to ensure a safe filming experience.
  5. Work with the show producers to contact and coordinate interviews for the day of filming.
  6. Work with the Location Manager to scout external locations for interviews.
  7. Create and maintain the list of locations and interviews.
  8. Hire quality camera operators and direct our FAA certified drone pilot to capture appropriate footage.
  9. Participate in production meetings.

LOCATION: Remote with some travel to the shooting site which will be within the greater Denver area. Currently site is expected to be Central City, CO. May Change. Will need to have reliable transportation.

Will receive $12/hr in pre-production and for time spent on-site, and a $750 bonus in addition to hourly rate upon successful conclusion of principle location shoot.
