Full-Stack Developer in Richmond, VA, USA

The TECH TITANS are looking for a junior full-stack software developer. (If you have more than 3 years of experience, DO NOT APPLY. If you are not a U.S. citizen located in the Richmond, Charlottesville, or Hampton Roads or surrounding areas, DO NOT APPLY.)

This is a part-time contract role that will work on various projects 10-20 hours per week. Although we’d like someone with a couple years of experience, we’re willing to look at other candidates - but only those that are interested in freelancing. (We can offer mentorship getting set up in this area if you aren’t currently setup to freelance; happy to help the right people.)

It’s a remote position, although we’d like someone within a reasonably commutable range for occasional face-to-face meetings (once a week) in the Richmond area and once in a while some programming work in our lab, probably twice a month. (The “lab” is about 40 minutes from downtown RVA, 70-ish mins from C’ville, ~1 hours to Hampton).

Number of years experience for this role is less important than the following:

• You’re a fast learner. You realize that the majority of what programmers do has been done before by someone else and that that information is generally available on the internet - thus, you aren’t really afraid that you might not know a particular tech or language; you know how to pick it up quickly.

• You’re trustworthy. We have some government entities we work with (although unlikely you’ll start there). But this isn’t so much about being able to pass a background check as it is doing what you say you will do. Repeat: you do what you say you will do.

• You’re responsive. Yeah, we get it - life happens and this is a part-time thing, so we know you’ll be doing something else too (or maybe binging a new video game or Netflix series). But either way, the worst thing that can happen for a TECH TITAN is a Skype message or email unanswered for a long period of time. You’ll update your calendar and your away message (“binging now”); or reply to those Skypes/emails with a quick “I’ll be back in 2-3 hours. Binge watching The Witcher”.

• You’re diligent. In general, the TECH TITANS are a group that can often do 2+ jobs in the time it takes someone else to do one. We’d like to see candidates that can elevate their level of productivity as they learn the ropes. And we’ll readily reward those that do.

• You’re persistent. Sometimes the code doesn’t look like you want; it’s not elegant or structured the optimal way. But it works and the client needs changes/enhancements to it. You’re able to swallow your techie pride at times and slog through to do what is needed to get work delivered.

• Adept at general computer skills. The goal of the TECH TITANS is to deliver solutions for our clients. We don’t have time to train you how to configure your PC/Mac or how to set up your development environment and we don’t plan to put that on our clients.

You’ve done (and can show) some actual work in the following technical areas/tools

• The general Microsoft stack (ASP.NET MVC, C#, SQL Server, Visual Studio)
• Basic front-end web stuffs (HTML, CSS, JavaScript/jQuery)

You’ve been at least exposed to these areas

• The LAMP stack
• Azure and/or AWS

Bonus points for

• ETL and Reporting, heavier SQL (complex joins, import/export data, etc.)
• Mobile and fancy web stuffs (Bootstrap, Responsive, SASS/LESS, from PDF to HTML)
• CMSes (any of a number would be cool; Wordpress setup and customizations, etc.)
