Project Manager in St Pancras, UK

Project Manager

The British Library leads the way in advancing the world’s knowledge. In 2016 we entered a major Partnership, which has allowed us to open up on-line access to a large number of Hebrew manuscripts from the collection, making them freely available to scholars, researchers and the public worldwide. The manuscripts included in the project represent centuries of Jewish culture, history and tradition. We are keen to recruit a project manager to help us deliver this exciting programme, due to be completed in December 2019.

This is a great opportunity to be part of a small team that consists of a cataloguer and a project support officer. The collection embraces many areas of Hebrew literature both religious and secular, and its geographical spread takes in Europe, North Africa, the Middle and Near East, as well as various countries in Asia.

You will be responsible for implementing and monitoring the last stages of the digitisation project to ensure that the project’s objectives are met on time and on budget. You will plan and schedule the digitisation of the manuscripts and you will manage project risks and project changes effectively, and in a controlled way. You will be responsible for supervising the work of the project support officer. Youwill be able to communicate appropriately with stakeholders, and to work constructively with colleagues within and beyond the Library.

You will have strong project management as well as strong financial and information technology skills. A project Management qualification is highly desirable. Good oral and written communication skills in English will be essential, and knowledge of classical Hebrew desirable. With proven staff management skills, the ability to work independently and in a team, and a track record of working to strict deadlines, you will be crucial to the success of the project.

In return we offer a competitive salary and a number of excellent benefits. Our pension scheme is one of the most valuable benefits we offer, as our staff can become members of the Alpha Pension Scheme where the Library contributes 20.9%. Another significant benefit the Library provides is the provision of a flexible working hours scheme which could allow you to work your hours flexibly over the week and to take up to 5 days flexi leave in a 3 month period. This is on top of 25 days holiday from entry and public and privilege holidays.

We have manuscripts, maps, newspapers, magazines, prints and drawings, music scores, and patents. We operate the world’s largest document delivery service providing millions of items a year to customers all over the world. What matters to us is that we preserve the national memory and enable knowledge to be created both now and in the future.
