A rock opera called The Modern Age

Soundtrack Musician
Budget $2,000

Back in the 90s I figured out how to write songs, by writing music first and determining the lyrics later (I’d had it backwards). Since then I have written about 40 songs, and they just seem to fall out of the sky to me, randomly. Perhaps because of my career in medicine as an ER doctor, and watching the world go by with this perspective, many of the songs ended up with themes about people and their society, at least here in America. I have compiled 22 of them into two groups of 11, as a two act rock opera that serves as a snapshot of, well, The Modern Age. The show would last about an hour and 45 minutes nearest I can tell.
Going from there to Broadway is another thing entirely. I stumbled upon Twine, and realized there are freelancers who can create a soundtrack for the thing, and then any would-be theater enthusiast could pull it off with maybe as few as 5 singers. I received “pitches” from freelancers and didn’t know any of this. But then the pandemic hit, and I tried to create my own soundtrack with a studio here that I have used to make recordings of the songs. And couldn’t do it very easily. I see now hat I want to hire a freelancer to do it.
At my website, bigredthemd.com, anyone can go to the music section on the site and hear my description of the project and all the songs. At the beginning, I introduce the project, then each song is introduced, and then after each I return with more narration and description of the songs and why they fit together like this. A freelancer can easily get the gist of the songs, and I assume with a computer, make a soundtrack. Perhaps 20 freelancers offered their services, and I am now ready to select one.
“Rock”, the genre, is songs that have traditional chords like majors and minors and sevenths and all that, the lyrics are emotional with a serious take-home message usually, and instrumented with rock instruments. So, a rock band, like you see in the pit a the seminal rock opera, Jesus Christ Superstar. And very importantly for freelancers, there is the “second voice” mimicking the singer. Typically this is the electric guitar, but horns can do it, especially the sax. Or as on the collection’s catchiest song, Hey Baby, steel drums (two tracks)
My budget is $2000, plus what I will have to pay twine. I am in no big hurry, but would like something I can use in a month or two. I could even consider two soundtracks by separate freelancers at some point to offer this variety.
The project, and the arguments for how these songs fit like this is addressed on the recording and other written stuff all available on the site, so I won’t belabor them here. And as a perk, the site also offers “Big Red’s ER”, where all major medical concerns are addressed, and one can also explore my recipes and how to make my Italian grandmother’s bread. And a few essays. I haven’t told many people about it, the site I mean, and there is no way to contact it. I am a little leery of the public anymore, but it’s a great site. And one last thing, a lot of doctors are musicians and almost none have impressed me, so I am generally reluctant to tell anyone. But I…hope to be different on that. I wouldn’t have written these songs without a medical career. And frankly, there’s nothing like it out there. And it’s not too heavy either. The songs were all born as musical ideas, with no plan to assemble them like this. Thanks for your interest.
