Ruth Anne Smith was born and raised in Beechgrove, TN. She started dancing at the age of nine, and completely fell in love with it. For nine years she trained at Barfield School of Dance in the styles of ballet, tap, jazz, and modern. While at this studio she also competed on their competition team. This provided her with the opportunity to take master classes taught by professional dancers and choreographers such as Martha Nichols, Kathryn McCormick, Robert Roldan, and Keith Clifton among others. She has performed with her local studio in its annual show for the past ten years as well as at nationals (Dancemaker's Inc., and Applause Talent) five times, the last time competing a solo. She has twice been offered a scholarship to Fuzion's dance camp in Chicago. She also taught at her local studio located in Murfreesboro, TN, for three years where she enjoyed passing on a love for dance to the next generation. Now she is a dance major at Middle Tennessee State University and has performed in the pre-professional company there. She is also pursuing a minor in the recording industry with a concentration in audio production, where she is broadening her knowledge of a different area of the arts. Related to her interest in audio, she received a production internship from Jacob’s pillow in the summer of 2020. Now she is looking forward to graduating and continuing to share her love of dance.
